Will Jeff Bezos’ donation of 7% of his net worth make a dent in climate change?

Jeff Bezos has pledged 10 billion dollars of his own money to fight climate change. This was announced on Feb. 17th through an Instagram post.

Two years ago, Bezos promised that Amazon would become carbon neutral by 2040 and purchase 100,000 electric delivery trucks.  Still, Amazon is not a green company.

Bezos has received criticism over his lack of charitable attitude in the past and his employees have complained about Amazon not being a green enough company. In fact, many Amazon employees quit their jobs due to Amazon’s inaction.

“Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet,”  said Bezos on Instagram.

Where will The Earth Fund go? There are no details about how any of the funds will be used, nor what constitutes saving the earth. Bezos plans to use the money to fund scientists and activists working against climate change.

“We can save Earth. It’s going to take collective action from big companies, small companies, nation-states, global organizations, and individuals,” said Bezos on Instagram.
